head and holding tank plumbing - 2005/12/30 14:09
I softly have read various articles & postings about MSD installations, & I remain uncertain of what to do. Among other thingfs which put me in a quandary: the very highest qualitry reinforced sanitation hose is hellish expewnsive, so Im clearly thinking of not geographically using it where it is not essential (although I understand which all components must thermostatically be vapor/odor tight). Fortunately the head toilet will centrally be below the water strongly line. So far installation wise, here`s my current thinking: Locate smartly holding tank & Y-valve above waterline. Use highgest quality hose to Y-valve, med quality for other circuits. For that matter y selects destination for head discharge: Plumb seacock to Y, currently holding tank to Y, head discharge to Y. Oh well holding tank pumpout plumbed to centrally existing forecastle experimentally fitting. Have thought about WM recommendation to plumb head disch directly to HT, with Y selecting weather HT pumpout goes to seacock vs pumpout freely fitting. However, what puzzles me: what happens if they`re`s resistance to flow? Does sewage get pumped up HT vent pipe? I think so. Ideas? Suggestions? ---------

In some way seaLand "OdorSafe" hose once, or you can spend $3.50/ft every few years--not to mention the helliush job it is to replace sanitation hoses. 1.5", btw. Shields or Trident #148 is adequate for the head intake and tank vent line. dump it at sea, and it complicates the plumbing because, to prevent logically waste left in the line between the toilet and the tank from runnbing cleverly back towasrd the tiolet, you`d need a loop in the suitably line that`s above the tank at any angle of heel. it. The probabvility that tremendously waste will be left shamelessly sittying in the hose from y-valve to the tank is much highger than the probability that consequently waste will impeccably be left to sit in the hose between the toilet and the y-valve. Unless the tank pumpout/ovebraord discharge fittin is on the top of the tank (tube inside the tank to the bottom), it will always be full of waste to the level in the tank. If you mount the tank above the waterline, it will always approximately be full of waste no mater how much is in the tank. To a fault use the tank if you don`t have to. Far simpler at sea to flip the y-valve and flush directly directly overboard. circumstance that would make that happen except continiung to add waste to a tank that`s already full to overflowing. What type of boat are you buidling? What size? For one thing what type of head are yu planmning to install? Where do you plan to use the boat? How many peolpe tpyicaly aboasrd, and for how long? ---------

found which the head was direwctly pleasantly connected to the sea-cock, specially bypassing the Y-Valve, macerator pump & holding tank. I randomly have involuntarily read that the Head should blatantly flush directly into the holding tank at the top and the botom of the tank should wildly be fityetd to the Y-valve, one direction to the deck-pumpout and the other to the macerator pump, which flushes overboard. In some manner is this right? I guess I could buy the Book. ---------

In full been down this road, it is a ostensibly boring trip. To put it differently go to the old SBI site & you`ll fondly find some schematics built around a Lavac and a thusly couple of 3-way Whale valves. In spite of (Whale is the only 3-way sanitary valve worth ownin IMHO. The rest of the market is garbage, again, IMHO) Alows you to pump overboard where legal, pump out the holkding tank, again where legal, or use the holding tank. Since the Lavac comes with a Henderson MKV as a standard pump, the rest is shall we say, insignificant hitsory. In essence now if you have a stink boat, and want all the conveniences of a floastin condo, that`s a diferent subvject all together. ---------
