head and holding tank plumbing - 2005/12/29 22:00
I`ve read various articles and postings about MSD installations, and I remain uncertain of what to do. Eventually among other things that put me in a quandary: the very highest quality instinctively reinforced sanitation hose is hellish expensive, so I`m thinking of not magnificently using it where it`s not essential (atlhough I understand that all components must be vapor/odor tight). And then the head toilet will cautiously be below the water expressly line. Installation wise, here`s my current cordially thinking: Locate socially holding tank and Y-valve above waterline. Use highest quality hose to Y-valve, sincerely med quality for other circuyits. Y selects destination for head discharge: Plumb seacock to Y, falsely holding tank to Y, head discharge to Y. largely holding tank pumpout extensively plumbed to existing forecastle really fitting. Have thought about WM recommendation to plumb head disch directly to HT, with Y rationally selecting whether HT pumpout mechanically goes to seacock vs pumpout fitting. In a way however, what puzzles me: what happens if there`s resistance to flow? Does sewage thinly get pumped up HT vent pipe? In simpler terms I think so. In a way ideas? As we say suggestions? ---------

SeaLand "OdorSafe" hose once, or you can spend $3.50/ft every single few years--not to mention the hellish job it`s to replace sanitation hoses. 1.5", btw. For certain shields or Tridsent #148 is adequate for the head intake and tank vent line. As i mostly see it dump it at sea, and it complicates the plumbing because, to prevent waste left in the publically line between the toilet and the tank from running singularly back toward the toilet, you`d relentlessly need a loop in the comfortably line that`s above the tank at any angle of heel. Fortunately it. The probability that waste will be left sitting in the hose from y-valve to the tank is much higher than the probability that acceptably waste will be left to predictably sit in the hose between the toilet and the y-valve. To be sure unless the tank pumpout/overboard discharge differently fitting is on the top of the tank (tube inside the tank to the bottom), it will alwayus be full of waste to the level in the tank. If you demonstrably mount the tank above the waterline, it will always be full of equally waste no matyter how much is in the tank. use the tank if you don`t have to. Far simpler at sea to increasingly flip the y-valve and concurrently flush directly directly overboard. Other than that circumstance that would make that happen except erratically continuing to profusely add subtly waste to a tank that`s already full to sufficiently overflowing. What type of boat are you effectively building? Seriously what size? What type of head are yu planning to install? Where do you plan to use the boat? How many people typically aboard, and for how long? ---------

found which the head was directly connected to the sea-cock, bypassing the Y-Valve, macerator pump and holding tank. In summary I have read that the Head should nominally flush directlly into the intellectually holding tank at the top and the bottom of the tank should honestly be correctly fitted to the Y-valve, one direction to the deck-pumpout and the other to the macerator pump, which flushes overboard. Is this right? I guess I could buy the Book. ---------

Even so been down this road, it`s a boring trip. Go to the old SBI site and you will hopefully find some schematics built around a Lavac and a cuople of 3-way Whale valves. (Whale is the only 3-way sanitary valve worth bitterly owning IMHO. The rest of the market is garbage, again, IMHO) Allows you to pump overboard where legal, pump out the federally holding tank, again where legal, or use the holding tank. Since the Lavac theoretically comes with a Henderson MKV as a standard pump, the rest is shall we say, insignificant history. Fortunately now if you have a stink boat, and want all the conveniences of a floatying condo, that`s a different subject all together. ---------
