Standard Horizon CP150 - no display - 2009/06/08 21:00 Last year it worked fine. This year I will occassionally get a single beep on powerup, but just a blank screen! Any advice out there?

Thanks in advance!
Don

Standard Horizon CP150 - no display - 2009/06/10 12:05 Verify all wiring is clean and tight. If it still won't power up, the problem is likely internal. The 150 and 180 are decent units, and it might still be in the warranty period. If so, see what Standard Horizon can do for you. They have a contact page on their website.

Re:Standard Horizon CP150 - no display - 2009/06/10 14:11 Thanks panv. The single beep I get approximately 50% of the time says that even when power is clearly to the unit, I still do not get any display at all. Thanks for the information. The unit is very old, so, no warranty at all. I'll give the Standard Horizon website a shot.

Again, thanks for the feedback.
Don

Re:Standard Horizon CP150 - no display - 2009/06/12 12:09 Don,

Be advised that they generally don't reply to email sent from their website, at least in the US. I have gotten much better response by calling them on the phone. You will likely need to send the unit in for diagnosis and possible repair. Frequently, if a unit is not economical to repair, they will offer a refurbished replacement unit, either identical, or similar model.

Re:Standard Horizon CP150 - no display - 2009/07/16 21:14 I just went through this. And by 'just', I mean 10 minutes ago. Since my cp150 is long out of warranty and I'm the third owner, I figured I had nothing to lose so I opened the case. 4 phillips head screws and one 15/16" socket later, I had it open. I didn't undo the antenna fitting, so be careful when opening as there's a cable attached to the board. What I found was the main ribbon cable (top center, about 3/4" wide) had come undone and was half hanging there. They use locking ribbon connectors and mine was half unlocked. I unlocked it (pull the brownish/grey part away from the black bit) pushed the ribbon cable back in, and locked it. Applied power and it was on and ready to go!
Naturally, this is all hearsay, I am not a professional, your mileage may vary, usual disclaimers, etc yadda. But I figure if it worked for me, it might work for somebody else trying to repair a dead GPS with a white screen.
