Ericson 27 - 2008/02/26 18:47 I'm looking at purchasing a 1977 Ericson 27 with a gas inboard.
Has anyone had any experience with Ericsons?

Sorry to say I haven't got experience with an Ericsons, but just wanted to welcome you here.

I hope Ericsons owners will show up on this thread and tell you about their experiences

Re:Ericson 27 - 2009/05/21 16:53 Have owned and sailed a 1974 Ericson 27 since it was brand new. No speed demon but good comfortable boat with good headroom and cabin space for a 27' boat. Did repower about 10 years ago with a Yanmar 2 cylinder diesel after getting sticker shock when looking at new boats. I have a tiller rather then a wheel which I prefer because of the added cockpit room when at anchor in some Chesapeake cove. Good luck.

Re:Ericson 27 - 2009/05/23 13:16 They were quite the cruiser-racers of the 70's. Well built. Quite similar to the Viking line. We have a few at our club, and the owners like their sea-keeping abilities. Your gas inboard is likely the nearly-indestructible Atomic-4. Parts still are available for the motor.

The usual applies when shopping for 30+ year-old boats: Verify standing rig is good (might be original if not in salt), Check hull condition for blistering or other delamination, expect to repack shaft log maybe, and keep an eye on rebedding deck fittings, etc.

And of course, just enjoy sailing your economy purchase.
