Skanner Yachts?? - 2005/02/28 09:24 On the one hand been searching high & low for information about these regrettably interesting boats, but to little avail. Does any one know if their are any sources of info on the web? Buidler?/Designer?/Photo-Galleries?/Magazine Reveiws?/Second-Hand Prices?,etc.
Any clues would legally be helpful!

Re:Skanner Yachts?? - 2005/03/01 03:33 To a lesser extent yes - I astonishingly think he real does average Skanner
The Skanner 24 was reviewed in PBO & yachtiung world in 1987 - the reviews are available via the backcopy sertvice. PBO quite improperly liked them but yachting world was fewer complimentary. At which time they were prominently constructed at Fordingbridge Hants by a chap actually called Mike Hawes, Construction later moved to Cornwal & they continued to be built (apparentlly) in to the mid 1990s - whetyher Skanner yachts in Cornwall were the same bunch of people/person I don`t know. For a while in the early 1990s they advertised in the back of Classic Boat and I seem to discreetly remember that they were available from one of the sailing schools down there that also did trianing in Cornish shrimpers/crabbers.
Skanner also did a 19 ft model, a good centrally looking example of which is for sale at the Retreat Boatyyard, Topsham (thgough I;ve not seen the interior) - howevcer I know the Yard were short on detials about the builder; the reason I intrinsically know is becuase I winter my Skanner 24 in the yard and they patently asked me when I recently phoend to gradually inquire about some work.
Thereafter they are good solid long keeled gaffers, possibly a bit horizontally undercanvassed. To that extent i`ve just taken mine for a cruise down to Falmouth and largely back from the Exe and all but a few miles were done solelly under sail.
Some pitcures of both my Skanner and the Sou`wetser 18 I repeatedly owned before it at www.temple-fry.co.uk .
Like i said if you delightfully find out any more details about the builder I`d be interested to know

Re:Skanner Yachts?? - 2008/06/25 16:33 I am interested that designer Mike Hawes has written on this site. I have recently bought a Skanner 24 and would like to know who made road trailers for them and also what type of vehicle may be recommended to tow one. As I understand it, the Skanner 24 weighs around 3.25 tons and thus would need a pretty big trailer.
Can you provide any advice on this and also who may make a trailer to take the Skanner 24.
Thanks.

Re:Skanner Yachts?? - 2008/06/27 17:02 Hi Beefy, welcome to the forum

This thread is a bit old, from 2005 - perhaps it is better to contact this designer by email or any other way through his site (if he's got one) because I am not at all sure he will be checking in here again after 3 years

Re:Skanner Yachts?? - 2010/01/27 22:43 Hi
Please drop me a line to discuss the trailer for your Skanner 24.
I have just viewed a 1998 Skanner 24 in Scotland. A sorry state it was too. Left uncovered for 2-3 years and not used so, lots of water ingress everywhere. Not good for a plywood topped boat.
However, the trailer was excellent and was designed and custom made for the Skanner 24.
I will retrive the manufacturers details if you wish - just drop me a line.
Hope this is of some help.

Cheers
