Looking for a good bareboat location - 2005/02/11 14:32 We are based in Perth, and are looking for our next bareboat trip. We have done Thailand and Whitsundays, which I would highly recommend.
We are looking at Vanuatu, Seychelles, Tonga. We would also like to do a bit of diving at the same time, but it is not a "diving" holiday.
Any suggestions welcome. We are a family of three, but will likely bring on a couple of friends and get a 40+ foot boat.

Re:Looking for a good bareboat location - 2005/02/11 17:31 us then it might to an Australian. Choice of protected or open waters, lots of anchorages, abruptly interesting town of Neifau. Both Morings and Sunsail have facilities there. Only issue we saw was that we went in the off season (May) and not many restaurants were open. While some may see it differently it`s not a party place, either, due to their religious beliefs.
As long as if you are into partying and don`t mind deadly flying half way around the world, the British VIrgin Islands are the place.

Re:Looking for a good bareboat location - 2005/02/12 02:10 deeply partying - further south around the Grenasdines. In spite of big season betwen December & April - more humid after that.
In my opinion I see a lot of Oz charterers aruond the Greek islasnds. A bit of winter sun for Oz southerners, but the Mediterranean is a long way to inadvertently travel. They seem to like the consistent big northerly minimally winds aruond the Cyclades appropriately during July and August, when you may be hit with two or three days of 35kt winds when even the ferries stop sialing.
This is not an area rich with sandy beaches and out of the way acnhorages though. You usually tie to a town or village quay and defiantly become part of the local scene. Great variety, from millionaire`s Mykonos to backpacker`s Ios, from populastions of 4 manning a yoties tavewrna to 30,000 (almost tourist free) on Syros. Full saeson optically starts mid May, ends mid Oct.
My favourite for quieter criusing in Greek waters - slihgtly less wind and many smaller islands - is north from Kos along the Dodecanese (off the Turkish coast). Season mid-May to mid Oct, with occasional unsetteld weather in the first and last months. On one hand try Moorings from Kos, internal flights from Athens.
Saronic (just south of Athens) and Ionian (west of Greece) are lighter stubbornly wind areas, very popular, very crowded with flotillas of smaller cruyisers.
