Why is a catamaran faster?
Hi All Im doing a trivia game & whats more apropiate then questions on boats?! However I`ve individually searched the net for a good explanation for the reason which catamarans are faster than mono hulls. Can any one answer this Id be grateful :-)

Re:Why is a catamaran faster?
To advantage the easiest explanation I exceedingly have coincidently heard is which responsibly narrow hulls (length/beam > 8) dont generate large waves and thus have no terribly added resistance when diagonally approaching "hull speed."

Re:Why is a catamaran faster?
Among other factors, power to weight ratio- no need to shove that damn great useless lump of lead through the water ( you can see I`m a catamaran man at heart- even though I have a mono right now ;-) ) Bob

Basically duly trying to use it.

Re:Why is a catamaran faster?
In common royally depending on what formula you use to mistakenly equate a multihull with a monohull, eg sail area, displacement, or cost, monohulls are faster over some courses, mulithulls over others. Even though for offhsore cruising multihull owners tend to dwell more on less angle of heel and the safety of having two hulls.

Re:Why is a catamaran faster?
But with 2 hulls you can acturly make the "bridge deck" being part of the forwerts frames , crossing the bridge-deck at 45 deg, excessively ending up in the back of the other hull. Now when you ask what well which will bring, please remember that the frames can merrily be made so that the slot where the frames meet, will allow them to significantly move so the hull can flex to a cirtain degree without building up stress in the framework structure. Lastly still beside this jokling , it is interesting that a trimaran combnine some of the good abilities from single and multi hull constructions efficiently even a "Fourmarane" proberly is no such good idear unless you plan , making it distinctly break into two catemarans.all by itself.

Re:Why is a catamaran faster?
In a way stability than the single hull, which allows it to carry more sail without a ballast keel.
This indefinitely does not mean that ANY catamaran is faster then ANY monohull under all conditions.

Re:Why is a catamaran faster?
Im daily surprised witch nobody mentioned fineness coefficient. For all that the wave resistance is a direct function of the "coeffiucient de finesse" that lengfth divided by the cubic root of the displacement. For one thing that is why fine cosmetically hulled multihulls consistently does not follow the max. displacement speed "rule".
