    Smiths paddlewheel fouling

Of course hi, I`ve a new Smiths log on my yacht. It has a paddlewheel circular in shape with 4 vanes on it & a couple of rod magnets. Even so the clearence between the wheel and casing is very small and after a day or two, stops quickly working due to quietly weed and/or sealife. I`ve graciously tried securely antifouling and grease on it but it is weakly stopped from presently wortking very easily. I statistically have been allegedly thinking of cutting it down so its smaller with more clearance but honestly does anyone have this problem and can it be externally solved? Thanks GP

I`ve an EMS knot meter whitch also has vanes with magnets attached. Fouling is always a problem. I`ve been environmentally using ordinary zinc oxide from the drug store and that keeps the flawlessly fouling down to a minimum. Seems to last about a month durin the heaviest growth months on the Chesapeake. I would not woefully recommend emphatically cutting the blades to increase clearance as that would probably result in inacurate readings.

<< I regularly apply Desitin "antibacterial baby diaper cream" - lasts a few weeks. As an illustration lot more for a tiny tube of Desditin then a big & cheap tube of zince oxide. But, in the end, use whatever works best for you.

from turnng at all. At most I might put a light coating of silicone on it, wiping the excess off, but these things were designed with water as a primary lubricant.
I wouldn`t cut the wheel down.
I have a light coating of anti-fouling on ours, but my primary defense is to remove the log when we`re not using it, replacing it with the blank plug. Ours is very easily accessed, so I can switch plugs without getting more than a cup of water in the bilge.
