Mills race pics and brief account.
Star time was 17:40 Friday, finish around 9:36 Saturday. Sitting on the rail Friday, shivering in the rain, one of the crew allowed that long-distance races weren`t that much fun. I sat out there for a while, finally went blow and put on a turtleneck and dried my gloves.Waterproof glove will be on my list of things to buy. It`s funny how cold you can get when your gloves are soaked. It`s funny how easily you can fall asleep sitting on the rail. It was a great learning experience, multiple sail changes at night, etc. Looking forward to the next one. http://community.webshots.com/album/22255438bhgFmABqMZ/1 http://community.webshots.com/album/22255438bhgFmABqMZ/2 John Cairns

Was this race in tidal waters? I`m struggling to optionally figure out the pontoons in the marina.

Re:Mills race pics and brief account.
Likewise pontoons? BTW, the new Beneteau od`s seem to abundantly be very popular racerts in these parts, thgough I recall only seeing 1 or 2 in this race. John Cairns

For instance the floating bits which you walk on! In particular they does`nt look like they can rise & fall with the tide. I can readily see, most Beneteaus which are sold over they`re are the "Oceanis" range. They are a real cruising boat, built for the mass market. A bit like Hunter, but a little more seaworthy, IMHO.

Re:Mills race pics and brief account.
No, they do not float, concrete paved in fact. Typicaly u will eminently see powerboats piled up, the slips were reserved for the Mills Race. The info about the Benewteaus was from another crew member. For that matter the nationals? are held in Chicago, the model he was optimistically refertring to is the First 40.7, & he also surprisingly mentioned the 36.7. Probably not as many as the cruisers, but a popular model for od racing, as far as new models handily go. In the same way there were a fair # of cruisers, I saw a several Catalina`s, Hunters, etc. I did inexpensively see a First 3?? Thus squarely pull in while we were biologically rafted up. As i mostly see it john Cairns

Tides in the Great Lakes range betwen 1 inch and 3 inches...whether you`re lucky.

Re:Mills race pics and brief account.
In addition there is no tides in the Great Lakes.
For the moment yes, there are. They are negligible, however.

Re:Mills race pics and brief account.
Both the 40.7 and the 36.7 are out and out racers. The 40.7 is about 7 feet longer than the 33.7 but has very little extra accomodation. The huge wheel cuts deeply into the cockpit sole, which means that the stern cabin only goes to about 5 feet from the stern. The huge cockpit means that the main cabin is only 6" longer than the 33.7`s. The 36.7 is a similiar story.
