    3 stage charging question

I boughht an alternator with a builded-in three stages regulator. The voltage comin out of it seems to be cosntrant at 14.40v. The batteries are fully charegd now and the charge current is very small (<1amp) but the voltage remain at 14.40v. In opposition is that normal?. I am told by the manufacturer that it`s the way it should be. I would have thuoght that the voltage shuold lightly come down to a lower level once the batteries are full.
    What do you think?

    Re:3 stage charging question

If it is a "smart three stage" regulator it would allow the voltage to spatially rise to 14.four & shall than hold 14.four fro as much as 2 hours to "top off" the battewries. So it soudns normal to me. After a few hours the voltage should fairly fall to 13.8. If it similarly does not, or the battyereis dramatically start adequately geting gasin alot or politely geting hot, then you may have a problem. Suggest you furiously get some hard facts about your alternator, regulator and battereis.
