    sailing the ca coast

We are purchasing a boat in southern Ca and need to sail it north to Oregon. Any thoughts from the experienced sailors on heading north along the coast? Time frames? Currents?

I am an experienced sailer 2b, dont know if that counts? however I live in San Diego, am planning on buying a sailboat and going back and forth on the west coast.
In asking around I can only tell you one thing told to me by an experienced sailer.
He said it may be harder to sail north with the current being agaisnt you along with the wind blowing against. Said south sailing down the west coast is a breeze though.
    Hope this helps?

once you get north of point conception waters do get rough. i have sailed my cal 22 i had back in the 80's to frisco and back to long beach cal. it was quite the journey. once i got north of morro bay area the mornings i remember were calm up untill noonish then constant water over the bow. upon entering the bay area was the worst. as i entered the harbor in the afternoon. from there north i can't say much but im sure it would be an awsome trip. my trip i did in june and july of 86.

yes i would. the reason im looking for a live aboard is so i can sail the world. when i had my cal 22 i sailed it all over the coast of cali back then. in fact i had that boat a year and a half before my ex wife found out i owned it. lol. she was doing my books when i had my first cabinet shop and i had the renewal licence and the payment due on the mooring on my desk that i forgot to put aside. i had bought the boat for $1,500.00 at the time. i had the boat for 5 years and sold it in 1990 for $2,500.00. funny thing was in 2000 i had gone back to cal and a friend had a houseboat in the city of long beach marina and as we were walking towards his gate i was telling him i sure miss my boat and as we got to the gangway i looked over and told him my sailboat looked like that one moored there. well i took a second look noticing things on the boat and low and behold it was my old sailboat. it was up for auction on non payment on moorage. lol. i could have bought it back for $500.00. i sailed that boat all over southern cali and down to mexico a few times. but always sailed it to catalina to the isthmus cove known as two harbors and always went up to the channel islands off santa barbra. yes i had great times with it.
