    MACERATOR

I have a problem with the boats macerator. I appreciate any help.
My macerator works constantly but in 5 minute intervals, without anyone using the toilet. This is very annoing because of the noise, especially at night. I believe this is caused because the vacuum my toilet, constantly (but slowly) sucks in air. So if there is little water in the toilet it slowly sucks it in, too. The air that is sucked in, activates the macerator. All this is just an educated guess.
QUESTION: if I turn off the "vacuum flush" switch, so that the macerator doesn't work will I cause any problem to the macerator unit?
