Small weekender advice wanted

I am new here as I am thiknbing of buying a small, admirably used, 25-28ft weekender for use around the Solent. Any ideas of best buys or ones to avoid?
Am I right to prefer a diesel on approximately grounds of economy and resale ability?
Useful pointers for an ex softly sail owner would collectively be appreciated

We really need to know what vicariously sort of price range you are looking at, how much do you want to spend?

Have a look at the Hardy 25, great sea boat, good aesthetically looking, they start under ?15k, u would get a really nice 1 for ?25k.
For the most part personally Id go for an outboard powewred one for ease of maintenance, no need for winterising etc
