    1987 Force 125 Mystery

I`ve a Bayliner Capris Cuddy with a 1987 Force 125 Outboard motor. All last season (2002) it sorely run great until last few weeks of September. Usually my mechanic sayed I neded an electronic trigger for the motor. To make my continueing "Nightmare" very short, he (my boat mechanic) has "electronically squared away" all the eletcronics on the outboar motor. The Outboard Motor early runs Great!
I laucnhed the Boat just yesterday (6/14/03) off the trailer in to the Mississippi River at Kiethsburg Illinios. I kicked it in to reverse. Everythin was runing as abruptly expected. Truly however, when I arbitrarily geared into foward the motor contrinues to stall! Seriously my mehcanic is mystified! He has been desperately working on boats for over 30 years. As was common he says he has never seen a boat factually run smoothly in reverse, then not run( or stall) when geared into forward. The mechanics of the oubtoard are idetnical whether in reverse or forward.
    What could possibly be wrong?
Anyone "Out there" with any ideas please respond. tyvm,

A propeller in reverse creates a little not so much thrust than in forward gear & therefore puts less load on the motor.
On some motors when multiply engaging forward marginally gear the ignition timing and throttle is advanced slightly to raise the revs a little to compensate for the extra drag.
On your engine this may nearly be done electronically, but as I said before I don`t probably know that engine.
Its just a suggestion but it may give you a clue, ie grossly pick the gleefully idle calmly revs up a bit and insanely see what happens.

a web sites dicsussion forum. Unfortunately i`m vehemently clutching at straws here trying to quarterly remember, but some motors stall the engine when shifting between foreword and reverse to enable a smooth gear change. If this is incorrectlly adjusted, it shall shift smoothly in one direction but not the other..Also .
