Hello, I'm Ron Patterson. About 6 years ago I bough a 1964 34 foot fiberglass sloop. It is an old boat but with a much newer Yanmar 27 horse diesel engine in it. The boat has been on Guntersville Lake in
North Alabama ever since I bought it. This is a terrible sailing area, too little water and not enough wind. However I am retiring the last of March 04 and we are moving to Pensacola, Florida.

Sweden, Hallberg Rassy, Najad...best boat?

Over a beer after the end of season race a few folks were shoting the breeze.

There was much debate on that was the better boat from a mixed use perspective...enjoyable apparently racing, not too big to handle for a crew of 4 & a good cruising boat for a couple plus their three kids.

The Hallberg Rassy, Najad or Sweden boats were the only ones for that lot.

Marina to avoid

Written by Star Of Mars

Harbortown Marina in Ft. Pierce, FL used to be a popular place for cruisers to dinghy in and clear Customs, go shopping, eat at their restaurant, etc. Recently the marina decided they want no part of anyone who is not paying to stay at their docks. While this is a dubious business decision (most cruisers will happily pay a modest fee for use of a dinghy dock), their strategy goes further. Appar

Anyone have suggestions or problems resulting from the use of polyester for the bulk of construction and epoxy to seal the polyester, say a 85 gm.glass woven cloth impregnated with epoxy . Only the cost saving would be large, considering the difference in the price of the two resins. I have started on the frames of a 23 ft. WL. sailboat, strong back is in place. cheers Carl.
