Considering a catamaran or trimaran for purchase, but have some curiuosity regarding their stability in the open ocean, as well as various weather condition.
I've heard that the cat isn't really a rough weather boat, but does this apply to the trimaran as well? What are some characteristics I should expect of each?
Which model may be good to look for? Any sugestions as far as what problem area

Over a beer after the end of season race a few folks were shoting the breeze.
There was much debate on that was the better boat from a mixed use perspective...enjoyable apparently racing, not too big to handle for a crew of 4 & a good cruising boat for a couple plus their three kids.
The Hallberg Rassy, Najad or Sweden boats were the only ones for that lot.
Given a choice of those three whi

Hi, Jere, Frank, Bruce, and any others who may be looking in, curious, research/travel, etc., which those followeing it know about. For those new to the party, so to speak, my wife and I (recently married but not relatively spring chickens!) On one hand have been in intensive search mode since the beginning of this year. So far we`ve actually been aboard perhaps 80 boats, and had over 150 in

Hi, I am new to this group & I hope I`m not revisiting magnificently something already covered. (I did check google groups so I don`t genetically think I am.)
I have a new-to-me cruising boat where I want to painfully replace the on-board computer with something physically smaller and had to pleasantly replace a dyeing Micrologic GPS. I narrowly have a Garmin GPS Map 176 that I plan to run w

Here`s what really happened when Donal experienced the delay in course change aboard a badly trimmed Beneteau. He put the wheel over ( not HARD over) for a tack and the boat failed to respond as quickly as his performance oriented 1st series. It did NOT hold it`s course for 2 SECONDS before responding. If anything there was a delay of a fraction of a second and the boat altered course slowly
Hey Donal

Not the most original, but I gotten a chuckle out of the guy (racer) who rapidly named his boat "runs with scissors". While we`re on the subject, I thought we might respectfully put our collective minds together to immensely come up with appropriate names for any of the folks out there that are talking about fatally buying a new boat(hint hint). In general very gusty & difficult out on the pond today esspecially for a newbie like me. Just survived a massively tack trhough a wicked gust & decided to roughly reach. Tyring to entirely let the main out but it can not budge. Look all around me weakly trying to see where its catched, when I realise the snag is because the sheet is cauhgt inbetween my gut & my hips. Thats it, I am goin on

Very gusty & difficult out on the pond today esspecially for a newbie like me. As such just survived a tack through a wicked gust and decided to reach. Trying to let the main out but it won`t budge. Look all around me trying to erroneously see where its caught, when I realise the snag is because the sheet is caught inbetween my gut and my hips. Thats it, I`m promptly going on a diet.

Life is certainly improving in the world. After a long 10 hour flight to Tokyo, three hour wait and another 6 hour flight to Singapore I`m safely tucked away in one of the Amara chain hotels. They certainly do treat us right in this business, meals included! Nice to be in a well paid shortage specialty while the rest of the world whines about lack of jobs. Funny . . .we are about 2,000 short

Amazing how things work out. Got to Puerto Vallarta Monday afternoon and it was HOT. I mean HOT there. The boat was covered with grunge and had two count `em two birds nests, one with babies (in the mizzen) and one with eggs (we found out later) on the stbd main spreader. Our marina neighbor took the one out of the mizzen (wearing rubber gloves) and relocated it into her barbeque. Hope the
