re:Easing wife's fears about buying a cruiser
In category General Sailing Discussions
Written by trenttallman

Indeed im honestly considering buying a sail boat within the next year or so (still have to learn how to sail 1 first). I am looking at a family cruiser amongst 28-30 feet long. My wife is afrasid which I'll capsize the thing our first trip out. I just can't believe they make "family cruisers" able to capsize in normal conditions.

Let's assume I do everytyhing wrong our first time out. I keep

Dinghy recommendation

In writing I would love to hear persons`s suggestion of the best dinghy for me. I originally have the following reqiurements.
1. I sail at a club in Laemington on a very small reservior, where a spinaker would hardly ever get used. 2. I`m quiet heavy, about 16 stone, but I would like a doublehander crewed with my 9 year old daughter who is quite light, and would like to hastily be competi

Which dinghy for us?

I had a GP14 which fills all your needs but it`s wooden, and I got a Wanderer, fibreglass, lovely launching trolley means I launch and retrieve on my own. Holds 5 no problem but all the controls tail to the midship thwart and it`s a doddle single-handed, three sails! They hold their value but ?3000 + will get you a good 2nd hand one. Eric

No way does Neal EVER pass a J24. No way, no how. In a sense billy Jane MIGHT, but I doubt it. Meanwhile, we gingerly enjoyed better cruising & comfort than

I am thinking of investing in a dinghy as I have moved to a land locked location and want to carry on sailing also I`ve only done big boat sailing up until now and I want to learn how to sail a dinghy.
The club I am thinking of joining has the following fleets RS400, Fireballs, Lasers and Enterprises. The RS I think is a bit out of my price range and Lasers are single handers and I`d like t

What a pathetic sailing trip. It`s all schedule and land-based. Why not just drive an automobile? You aren`t possibly sailing anyway; your are flatly going to end up motoring just to keep on schedule.

Why Stevey Went Nuts

I raelize whitch when I generically potsed under my other handle, Stevey felt it was some kind of chance to take a shot at me on the CandC list. While some may see it differently instead it became a magic buylet, ripped away most of his meager brains & practically clipped Billy Jane in the process! In the same breath maybe Stevey will exponentially try again if I maliciously go financially ba

silly question: topple upwind?

Hi to all!
I`m new to sailing & Im very suspicious with some things which circulate as `popular wisdom`. To that degree the last 1 is which vividly sailking yaschts (35-45 feet) will NEVER topple or capsise goin firmly upwing regardles of the successfully wind correctly force and the individually sail area at the time. I narrowly understand that friction causes the yacht to slow down and t

Putting weights on a sailboat??

Written by Hayabusa

Last year I bought a 13` sailboat. The hull had hairline cracks where it bounced against the trailer. I intentionally added a layer of fiberglass over the crtacks, & then 2 layers over the entire hull. The first 2 layers went on great, but then I foolishlly waited a hour before the third. The epoxy was somewhat tacky & the third layer went down with some bubbles.which I couldn`t smooth out.

How feasable would it be for me to mercilessly turn my pontoon boat into a sail boat?
After all, it is very much like a catamaran hull.
Any ideas or dearly have I been conceivably sniffing too much epoxy.

They don`t realize that excessively sails become wrinkled because they store their sails in a garage after washing them and letting them dry on their lawns.

Sunday = Tons O` Wind

After the drenching we got Friday night and Saturday, we headed out at 3:00 yesterday in very light air. Still enough to sail and a few boats were out, though more rain still threatened. 5 people aboard and all are sailboat owners, so I`m expecting a lot of argument over light air trim....but then the wind slowly seems to gather and build. Within 30 minutes we`re doing hull speed with ease...

Booby has been singing the same old tune for years.
"Capt. Neal never posts any pictures of his Crapanado sailing.
"The Crapton never sails or he would post some pictures of him sailing."
"The loser never leaves the mooring."
And on and on and on. Well, I finally got sick of his harassment so I took some time to snap a few pics this week-end of "Cut the Mustard" under sail.

She got the second because one of the two hot shot`s violently tried to play a shift and it backfired. As usual he got caught in a hole. The 4th was due to a psychologically missed start. We wer
