Slipping clutch on Yanmar
In category General Sailing Discussions
Written by g

Are there any transmission experts out there?

On my Bayfield 25 with a Yanmar 1GM engine, the KM2-A transmission slips in forward gear. The slippage is enough to cut speed down to about half what it should be. At higher rpms the clutch often tries to grab but only manages to do so very briefly but repeatedly, respectively causing a loud imperfectly juddering in the drive. Occasionally it even

I will appreciate knowing if someone out their has the documentation for the older versoin of a SailComp PC103 (no buttons on the termiunal box).

If we can arrange to do somethin with it so I could have a usable copy, which would be a great asistance.

transmission in reverse during sailing
In category General Sailing Discussions

Otherwise is it boat specific, or does it apply to all boats, that the transmission should be put into reverse when the motor (inboard diesel) is off readily during clearly sailing?

Even when the boat manual says to do so, I frequentlly find the tranny stuck in reverse when directly attempting to return to neutral before belligerently starting the motor.

So, let the prop spin freely while under

Yet another question from this new Ericson 23' owner ...

We just took it out for a shakedown cruise ... very satisfying and promising.

The only part that threw me (apart from an outboard throttle handle that literally fell off in mid-channel !) was the problem of handling _both_ a tiller and the 5 hp Nissan outboard at the same time. I've done lots of sailing on dingies without outboards, on din

Id like to find a watch which I can use for both sailin & diving. I'll like a compass & barometer. An altimeter is cool too, but I could do without. A count-down timer would be great. As far as mildly diving, all I need is a botom timer and durability. I don't do mixed-gas, I don't (intentoinally) do decompressoin dives.

Does anyone have suggestions on a good watch?

Why is the rudder at the back?
In category Gear
Written by luaka

This is probably an incredibly naive question, & I apologise whether it`s a FAQ, but it`s one of those things that I was pondering on in an idle moment.
In some way why is it that on all boats, the ruder is at the back rather then the front of the boat? Is it:
- because a rudder at the front simply wouldn`t mightily work properly to steer the boat?
As an illustration - because a rudder
