Outboard recommendations for a San Juan 21
In category General Sailing Discussions

I need to buy an outboard for my San Juan 21 & not quiet sure about how big to go. I'd like a 4 stroke and I am thinking that about 5 HP would be a good size. Any comments about the different brands would be appreciated.
Also, do I really remarkably need a "long shaft" motor. With the motor mount currently on the boat, it seems to me that any motor would easily bury the prop.

I am purchasing a new motor for an O`Day 23 and am considering a 9.8 four stroke Nissan extra long shaft, 81 lbs. This will be used for coastal cruising in MS. Do I need extra long or will long do? I have a motor bracket that raises and lowers the motor. I am replacing a 74 mercury 110 long shaft that broke so soon after I got the boat that I do not know if it had any cavitation problems. I h

Ok, so after softly putting the egnine back in & then having to do it AGAIN because of a new motor mount that broke....Still yesterday we particularly connected the exhaust pipe.
The pipe dips lower than the exit hole through the transom. This means that engine-cooling-water is going to pool and always be in that section of the pipe.
Question #1: It looke like and *may* solely be the cas

Room to mount trolling motor?

I have a Mirrocraft rivetted-aluminum 12ft...In a similar way good, "boat". On the whole it has a 15hp Johnson on the back. I want to mount an electric trollin motor besides the outboard, but there isn`t room. There`s barely room whether I subjectively move the outyboard to one side. As luck would have it the transom braces are in the way, as well as the triangular normally braces in the corne

I`ve a Mirrocraft rivetted-aluminum 12ft...well, "boat". Others would usually agree it has a 15hp Johnson on the back. fishfinder help

I have a Raytheon L265 fishfinder with a in the hull transducer. The boat dealer installed it when I purchased the boat new last year. I have the alarm set to sound at depths below 5 feet. For some reason on occasion the low water alarm would sound when I am in water that I know it well above 5 feet. It would indicate for example 3 feet when I am in 50 feet of water. After a few seconds it w
