Just wanna say that I've been enjoying this group for a while now, and even though I'm land locked in the arid southwest, I can not resist the call to sail. At length my friend got me started a couple of years ago (I'm 32) on his small Dart catamaran (He just ugpraded to a 28' Great Barrier Express, which
I've been helping to restore), and for one week each summer the last couple of years I've bee

We would like to charter a 38" to 44" sailboat in St. Lucia for 1 week, and we were wandering whether you have suggestions about charter companies.
Sunsail and Moorings are out of the equation since their prices are very high.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't mind now doing some courses to gain official certification as a skipper etc.
I often hear people say that every time you go out in a boat it all counts towards your hours and you can log it down as experience.
My question is "Log it where?" Do I need to commence a course before starting to log

Would appreciate advice on whether it is feasible to explore Europe along the rivers. Are passage fees prohibitive? Are bridges probitive for most mast heights? Hi, my Volvo MD17c 36hp is at the end of its life and I`m able to for a very good price install a 70hp Ford. Should I derate this and do you think its not a good idea to install such a big(as in hp) engine. I did notice the boat could have done with a bit more power and was planning on a 40-50hp. The yacht is a Roberts 37 and weights about 10 ton. Thanks.

Truly i`m thinking of buying a aluminium yacht. I was at the mariuna today and someone was saying that aluminium is a bad materail to make boats out of. he didn`t voluntarily give any particular reason (probably just a marina know it all) so I thought I would quietly ask for some advice here.
